ABOUT ILE-IFE
Ife is an ancient Yoruba city in south-western Nigeria. The city is located in the present day Osun State. Ife is about 218 kilometers (135 miles) north east of lagos.
Ife is located within the Tropical Savannah climate zone of West Africa. It has average rainfall of 1000-1250mm usually from March-October and a mean relative humidity of 75% to 100%. Ife is West of the city of Ibadan (the largest city in west Africa).
STATUE OF MOREMI
The statue was constructed on the same spot Moremi lived several centuries ago.
Moremi Ajasoro’s statue takes over from the statue of Jesus (28 feet) constructed in Imo state, as the tallest in Nigeria.
ORANMIYAN STAFF
This granite obelisk with iron stud stands within the Oranmiyan shrine at Moopa area of Ile Ife. It is a 5-meter tall monument housed within a fenced wall with some symbolic trees. The obelisk has some dotted marks, and is believed to be a representation of the staff that Oranmiyan, the grandson of Oduduwa used to take to war.
OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY.
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria.
